Northern pike encounters plastic pollution

An image reminiscent of ones of sea turtles in the oceans, but this pike was caught in a river in Canada.

  1. This hurts me to look at... almost as much as the pike is hurt.

  2. Thinking to the future - if that pike gets caught again, and the possible 'WTH?' reaction of the fisherman.

  3. So...as an Albertan, I feel compelled to note that the Saskatchewan River runs though Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but not Alberta. There are two tributaries to the Saskatchewan that flow through Alberta. They are the North Saskatchewan and the South Saskatchewan. I've alerted the Telegraph to their geographic error, but figured I would add it here too.

  4. Also, it doesn't come from a lake, but from a river, if we believe the story despite the lack of fact-checking on location.

    1. Tx - I've amended (my) text accordingly. I wrote that reflexly without a careful read of the article, because the only place I've caught northerns is in lakes.

    2. To be fair, they haven't got the river named to match the province, unless they have since changed it, and the original post by the fisherman doesn't state where it was caught, so maybe all bets are off as to where it really was. OTOH, northern pike (what I'd call a jackfish, cuz I'm from here...) are common enough in rivers http://www.albertafishingguide.com/location/search/type/moving
